About Mahiyat

Hello! My name is Mahiyat. I have been teaching offline since I was in high school. During COVID, I started to teach overseas students online. I slowly started to build my network of students and really enjoyed the process of teaching them. My favorite part of class time is seeing the expression of content and relief when my students understand a concept.

I'm currently doing my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering.

Students hesitate, at school and almost everywhere to ask questions, which is why, I like to create a friendly environment with my students and make sure they are always eager to ask me any questions that comes to mind. My lesson plan is divided into the following:

1. Warm-Up:

- Begin with a quick review of the previous session's topics or any ongoing challenges the student is facing.
- Discuss the importance of a growth mindset and the idea that mistakes are opportunities to learn.

2. Learning:

- Review the student's schoolwork or introduce a new concept based on the student's needs.
- Encourage the student to explain what they understand about the topic.
- Clarify any misconceptions and provide additional explanations if needed.
- Break down the concept into smaller, manageable parts.

3. Problem Solving:

- Work on a few problems together, applying the discussed concept.
- Emphasize problem-solving strategies and encourage the student to actively participate in solving each question.
- Provide guidance and support as needed.
- As the student gains confidence, gradually step back and let them take the lead in solving problems.

4. Be My Teacher!:

- Have the student teach me the concept we covered together.
- Ask them to explain the steps, key principles, and any potential pitfalls.
- Offer constructive feedback and correct any errors in their explanation.
- This step reinforces their understanding and promotes a deeper level of learning.

5. Independent Practice:

- Assign a set of problems for the student to work on independently.
- Encourage them to apply the learned concept on their own.
- Be available to answer questions and provide guidance if needed.

7. Closing:

- Summarize the key points covered in the session.
- Provide positive feedback and encouragement.
- Remind the student to approach math with a growth mindset and to view challenges as opportunities for growth.
