Russian Piano School Tradition: Emphasis on technique, tone production, and musicality with rigorous technical training.
Juilliard and École Normale Alfred Cortot: Since I was exposed to elite pedagogical approaches that balance technique and artistry I am able to pass it on to my pupils.
I am currently studying: Feldenkrais Method which helps students develop body awareness, coordination, and reduce unnecessary tension in playing.
In the past I had 4 semesters of Alexander Technique which Focuses on posture and efficient use of the body to improve playing stamina and prevent injury.
I am a practitioner of Yoga for Musicians which Enhances physical flexibility, mental focus, and relaxation, helping musicians to manage performance stress.
Typical Lesson Structure
Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Tailored stretches, yoga breathing exercises, or mindfulness techniques to prepare mentally and physically.
Technical Studies (15-20 minutes): Scales, arpeggios, and etudes focusing on finger independence, hand position, and tone quality (drawing from the Russian school and other master techniques).
Repertoire Work (30-40 minutes): Learning pieces that focus on both technical challenges and musical expression, with attention to phrasing, dynamics, and interpretation.
Musical Analysis and History (10 minutes): In-depth exploration of the historical and theoretical context of the repertoire.
Improvisation/Creative Exploration (Optional): Encouraging students to experiment and apply their knowledge in spontaneous ways.
Specialized Methods
Integration of Movement Techniques: Use Feldenkrais and Alexander principles to ensure students are aware of their posture and bodily tension, helping them to play with more ease and fluidity.
Holistic Approach to Performance Anxiety: Using yoga and mindfulness techniques to assist students in overcoming stage fright and performance stress.
Customized Learning Paths: Based on the student’s unique learning style and physical needs, with ongoing assessment and adjustment.
