About Elena
I am a concert pianist and piano teacher with a strong Russian classical background, teaching online in English.
My training includes the Moscow Conservatory College and the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, including postgraduate study. I also taught at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Alongside teaching, I have maintained an active performing life, appearing in concerts in different countries and taking part in festivals, competitions, recordings, and international musical projects.
I am a laureate of international competitions, and my work as a performer continues to shape the way I teach. For me, piano playing is not only a technical discipline, but an art of sound, form, meaning, and expression. This perspective informs my teaching in a direct and practical way.
Over the years, I have worked with adults, returning pianists, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for structured goals such as ABRSM. Some come to build a strong foundation, some to return to the instrument after many years, and some to move beyond fragmented study into something more coherent, refined, and musically convincing.
My work is rooted in the Russian classical tradition, with its emphasis on sound, musical thinking, technical clarity, and depth of interpretation. At the same time, I do not believe in rigid or mechanical teaching. Technique, listening, understanding, and expression must develop together.
I work best with thoughtful students and families who are looking for serious, individually tailored teaching and a clear long-term direction.

My teaching is based on the idea that music is both a language and an integrated system. Technique, reading, coordination, sound, phrasing, structure, harmony, memory, and expression are not trained as separate compartments. They are developed in connection with one another, so that the student gradually learns not only to play the notes, but to understand the music from within.
Technique, in my work, is never reduced to mechanical training for its own sake. It is inseparable from sound, gesture, articulation, timing, character, and expressive intention. I help students understand how musical direction shapes physical movement, and how technical choices support clarity, freedom, and expression.
A central part of my teaching is helping the student organise music inwardly. This includes recognising patterns, hearing harmonic relationships, shaping phrases, understanding formal direction, memorising more intelligently, and building a more conscious relationship with the score. The aim is not simply to correct isolated weaknesses, but to connect the elements of playing into a coherent and reliable whole.
I work with students of different backgrounds and goals: adult beginners, returning pianists, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for exams, performances, or more demanding repertoire. In each case, lessons are fully individual and adapted to the student’s level, aims, and way of thinking.
An initial lesson may be used as a diagnostic session to assess the student’s current level, identify the main gaps, and define the most productive direction of work. I also offer separate video assessments and consultation sessions for students or families who would like professional guidance before beginning regular lessons.
Regular weekly slots are limited.

As a parent, I was especially struck by how Elena taught my son to think, not just to repeat. Practice became more organised, more conscious, and far less dependent on constant external prompting. He began to understand what he was trying to achieve and how to work towards it. That change in independence was, for me, just as important as the improvement in his playing.
Elena helped me understand harmony not as an abstract theory subject, but as something one can actually hear and feel inside the music. Gradually I began to recognise harmonic movement as a changing sequence of colours, tensions, arrivals, and releases. This transformed both my interpretation and my practice, because I was no longer moving blindly from bar to bar.
One of the most valuable things I learned with Elena was how to memorise music intelligently. I had always relied on mechanical repetition, which made performance stressful and unreliable. She showed me how to build memory through structure, harmony, physical logic, and active listening. As a result, memorising became much faster, much calmer, and far more secure.
Elena combines discipline with imagination in a way that is very rare. She is precise, but never dry. She helps the student understand the inner logic of the music, shape a phrase naturally, and play with far more meaning and freedom.
As a parent, I valued above all the clarity and direction Elena brought to my daughter’s lessons. We had previously met teachers who were pleasant and encouraging, but the work often felt loose and inconsistent. With Elena, there was immediately a stronger sense of structure, purpose, and long-term development. My daughter became not only more technically secure, but also more attentive, more musically aware, and much more independent in her practice.
What impressed me most was the level of seriousness Elena brings to online teaching. There is nothing casual or superficial in her approach. She listens with extraordinary attention, notices the smallest details, and always connects them to a larger artistic idea. Even through a screen, the lessons feel concentrated, exacting, and deeply alive. She expects real thought from the student, and that expectation itself raises the level of the work.
I came to Elena as an adult student with previous experience, but also with many unresolved technical habits and a rather fragmented way of working. She immediately understood both the musical and physical reasons behind the problems. Her lessons are structured, demanding, and extremely perceptive, yet never mechanical. She does not simply correct mistakes — she reorganises the student’s whole understanding. That is a rare quality, and it is the reason I have made more serious progress with her than with teachers I worked with for much longer
Elena is not the kind of teacher who simply helps a student get through pieces from one week to the next. What makes her work unusual is the way she builds musicianship from within. Technique, sound, reading, coordination, structure, and expression are never treated as separate problems, but as parts of one coherent musical language. This changed the way I practise and the way I listen. For the first time, I felt that piano study was becoming intellectually clear, artistically meaningful, and truly connected.
