About Howard
Howard Chen is an accomplished classical pianist whose journey began at the age of five at the Yamaha Music Studio under the tutelage of Esther Ko. Since then, his dedication to mastering the piano has been unwavering. Howard has achieved Level 8 certification from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and the Advanced Panel Level of the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Certificate of Merit.
Throughout middle and high school, Howard actively participated in orchestras, playing both the violin and piano. He currently studies privately with Dr. Andrew Park and has graduated from the University of California, Irvine, where he studied under the internationally renowned pianist Dr. Lorna Griffitt.
Howard's talents have earned him multiple invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall and numerous awards in prestigious piano competitions, including the International Grand Concours Piano Competition, Elite International Music Competition, Glendale Piano Competition, International Los Angeles Liszt Piano Competition, Cypress Piano Competition, Southwest Youth Festival, and the American Protégé International Piano Competition. He attended the 2023 Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy, and is set to participate in the Montecito International Music Festival in 2024.
As of fall 2024, Howard is attending the University of Southern California on a $20,000 scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Piano Performance under the guidance of Professor Bernadene Blaha, as well as a Master’s degree in Music Industry.
Howard is passionate about sharing his love for music through teaching students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.

Howard is passionate about sharing his love for music through teaching students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. He aims to nurture and develop his students into mature musicians, balancing flexibility and understanding with the necessary discipline. He believes that teaching students is about adjusting to individuals' skill levels and personality. He values the individuality of every person and believes in encouragement and positive affirmation.
Howard has been forever indebted to his past teachers and wants to share the same experience with his students passing on the knowledge that he received.
