About Rebecca
Originally from the UK I am currently based in Athens. I studied Arabic at the University of Edinburgh, along with Farsi, but my preference was always for working on the spoken aspects of the language and verbal communication rather than the more academic side of things. I have lived in Damascus and in the West Bank. In Athens I work and live amongst Arabic speakers and am using my language skills on a daily basis in both a personal and professional capacity.
Although I am not a native speaker I believe this has helped me tutor others who are also approaching Arabic as I once did - as an outsider. I am proof that you CAN become convincingly fluent in Arabic, it just needs a little time and practise, plus a willingness to make mistakes and laugh (and be laughed at) as you negotiate all the new and amazing things that this language offers.

I like to start by understanding your motivations for learning how to speak Arabic and taking the lessons from there. My approach is how to do a lot with a little - people are often terrified by Arabic grammar. I like to show how, for dialect, a little light grammar can go a long way in Arabic, and it can be your friend.
Lessons last around 1 hour and will be a combination of conversation, looking at every day scenarios based on what you tell me you want to learn about and some simple introductions to phrases, vocabulary etc that will help build your flexibility in speaking.
Previously I have tutored people who are wanting to learn how to speak Arabic rather than go into details of Modern Standard Arabic, especially people who are working with refugees in the voluntary sector. However I can also tutor those wanting to work on their dialect as an aside from MSA-focused university studies.
