About Lily
I am a 20-year-old rising sophomore at Cornell University majoring in communication with an intended minor in psychology. I grew up in the Bay Area and have been an avid writer since childhood. In high school, I wrote for two international newsletters– The Youth Medical Journal and Letters to Strangers– which have enabled me to hone my skills as a professionally-trained writer. I also worked for two years with a local non-profit working to promote literacy for elementary schoolers in under-resourced schools. Working with these children not only provided me with extensive tutoring experience, but also revealed to me that I have a love for working with kids and promoting the value of education. There is nothing I love more than being able to share my love of writing with the next generation of students– seeing their faces light up with excitement as new knowledge circulates in their minds. Education is a gift, and I hope to make every student I work with understand that.

Lessons are tailored to the needs of each student (ages 5th-9th grade), so different students can request to focus on different areas of writing, ranging from grammar to creative writing). Generally speaking, we will start with a diagnostic assessment in which students will submit writing samples to identify their starting point and areas that need improvement. I will provide practice questions (relating to topics like grammar, syntax, and word choice), and utilize interactive activities and lesson plans to engage students. We will do lots of applied writing practice (analytical, creative, and persuasive), and analysis of additional writing samples to provide a solid foundational understanding and help students flourish as writers.
