About Laurie
Laurie Clark is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), children’s author, and creative facilitator with over 20 years of experience working with children, youth, and educators in literacy, emotional learning, storytelling, and nature-based education. She has facilitated restorative communication circles, outdoor classroom programs, and sensory-based learning experiences for children in schools and community settings. Laurie also lectured in the Early Childhood Education program at Algonquin College and specializes in supporting children through creative expression, confidence-building, and child-centered learning.

My tutoring approach is gentle, creative, and child-centered, designed for children ages 5–11 learning English, reading, creative writing, and early essay writing skills. I focus on building confidence first, helping children feel safe to express ideas, ask questions, and enjoy learning.
I use interactive and imaginative teaching methods including storytelling, guided reading, conversation, drawing prompts, sentence games, brainstorming, and creative writing activities. Lessons are adapted to each child’s learning style, pace, and interests so they remain engaged and motivated.
A typical lesson may include:
A warm-up conversation or reading activity
Vocabulary and comprehension practice
Creative or structured writing exercises
Gentle guidance with spelling, grammar, and sentence structure
Positive feedback and encouragement throughout
What sets me apart is my calm, encouraging approach and my background in children’s storytelling, emotional literacy, and creative expression. I aim to help children not only improve academic skills, but also develop confidence, imagination, and a love of language.
