About Gayliene
I have been passionate about education for nearly two decades, and that passion has only deepened with time. As a credentialed K-6 elementary school teacher and former Vice Principal in Sacramento, California, I have spent 18 years working in education — inside the classroom, in school leadership, and now at the doctoral level — developing a comprehensive understanding of how children learn and how schools can best support them.
My commitment to education extends well beyond the classroom. I am currently completing my Doctor of Education (EdD) in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University, with my doctoral research focused specifically on literacy achievement and the instructional practices that move the needle for young learners. This means that when I sit down with your child, I bring not only years of hands-on teaching experience but also the most current, research-backed knowledge in the field.
During my three years as Vice Principal, I worked closely with teachers, families, and students to strengthen instructional programs and create school environments where every child could thrive. That experience gave me a bird's-eye view of student development across grade levels and a deep appreciation for the partnership between educators and the families they serve.
I have worked with students across the full K-6 spectrum — from kindergarteners just discovering the magic of reading to sixth graders building the skills they need for middle school and beyond. I understand the milestones, the common stumbling blocks, and most importantly, the strategies that work.
I take great pride in creating a learning environment that feels safe, encouraging, and productive — even through a screen. My students know they are supported, and my families know they are kept informed every step of the way.
When you choose to work with me, you are choosing a professional who shows up prepared, communicates openly, and is genuinely invested in your child's growth. I would be honored to be part of your child's educational journey.

About My Sessions
Hi, I'm Gayliene! I'm a credentialed K-6 classroom teacher with nearly 18 years of experience in education and a doctoral candidate in Organizational Leadership with a focus on literacy achievement. I bring both real classroom expertise and advanced academic knowledge to every session — and I genuinely love helping young learners grow.
My Teaching Approach
I believe every child learns differently, and my sessions are built around that. Before we dive in, I take time to understand each student — their strengths, their challenges, and what makes them click. From there, I design lessons that are structured but flexible, always meeting the child where they are and building from there with intention and encouragement.
I use evidence-based, structured literacy strategies grounded in the science of reading, combined with math foundations that build number sense and confidence. Writing sessions focus on developing voice, organization, and mechanics in age-appropriate, engaging ways.
A Typical Session
Each one-on-one online session (via Zoom or Google Meet) typically includes a warm-up review of previous material, focused instruction on a new concept, guided practice together, and a brief wrap-up with take-home strategies parents can reinforce during the week.
Who This Is For
My sessions are open to all K-6 learners — whether your child is struggling and needs to catch up, right on track and wants to stay there, or ready to push ahead. No matter where they are, we will meet them there and move forward together.
What Sets Me Apart
With nearly two decades in the classroom and doctoral-level research focused specifically on literacy achievement, I don't just tutor — I teach. Parents can expect clear communication, consistent progress, and a tutor who truly cares about their child's success.
