About Alex
I began studying piano shortly before I began attending El Camino College when I was sixteen years old. I studied there for five years then transferred to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) where I studied with Craig Richey for three years.
I began my teaching career at El Camino College by tutoring other college students in music theory and piano, followed by teaching a class of young children at a summer camp. My first private student was shortly after that, when I began teaching a five-year-old affected by Autism. I've been teaching students with special needs ever since.
And from there, it snowballed until I was teaching almost forty students. Unfortunately, due to COVID, those numbers have dwindled, and I am now seeking new students once again.

My primary goal with piano lessons is for the student to enjoy themselves. Music is about expressing ourselves, and that should be a pleasurable experience. If the student is not having enough, then we think about what we can change.
My next highest goal is proper technique. The majority of students begin their training with bad technique. Good technique isn't difficult. It just takes attending to.
A typical lesson consists of the following:
-Student plays song that was assigned for that week.
-Anything that didn't go well is gone over.
-If the song is complete, we take a look at their next song. If the song is not complete, it's repeated.
-We complete any necessary music theory.
-If there's time, we begin practice on their next song.
Students in-person will earn plastic coins, which they can then spend on the prizes I make available. They are also able to earn trophies. Remote students could potentially participate if there's a student who particularly wants to.
I teach almost any age. My current students range from 4-60. It's possible for a talented three-year-old to study piano, but it's more common to start at four or five. There's no maximum on the upper side of the limit.
Lessons are:
$30 = 30 minutes
$40 = 45 minutes
$50 = 1 hour

The prices shown here are for 60-minute lessons. I charge $30 for 30 minutes. $40 for 45 minutes, and $50 for an hour, but most students should be doing 30 minutes, depending on your skill level, age, practice amount, and goals. 45 minutes is common for intermediate, and one hour is common for advanced.
