About Haden
I have been teaching for almost 10 years, so I am well-practiced at maintaining professional boundaries while also making teaching sessions enjoyable for students. One of my core beliefs as an instructor is that effective teaching treats the student as a whole person; students are learners, yes, but they also have identities beyond the classroom. I always try to meet my students with that in mind, and often try to incorporate those identities into my lessons (the benefits of meeting students individually and being able to cater to their needs!).
I have worked with educational non-profits like Girls, Inc, providing after-school and summer courses in English and Art. But my teaching experience has mostly been in higher education, instructing at Samford University, Birmingham-Southern College, and The University of Alabama. I have two Master's degrees and am working towards a PhD, so I am very qualified to teach English and English-adjacent subjects!

I love meeting individually with students so that I can cater to each student's learning style. My teaching method models a conference-style or supervision-style method, where the student works through our agreed-upon curriculum and meets with me as they analyse, especially as we get to essay-writing. I work on essay writing in stages to make those assignments more manageable for the student. I am very interactive and ask lots of questions, requiring participation from my students. My teaching is best suited to high school and college-age literature or rhetoric students. My personal expertise is in early British literature, from Chaucer through to the 18th century, though I have some experience with 19th and 20th century British literature and later American literature as well.
