I am an encouraging and personable teacher that likes to connect with her students and push them to the best of their abilities! There success becomes mine!
I prefer to teach alongside a pre-existing lesson plan that a student is taking in school. I have a holistic approach in the sense that I adapt to the lesson plans they are already learning in school and bolster the methods of teaching in a way that produces a more robust understanding in the student. It can be harmful to memory retention when a student is given too much information to process which is why I would rather build on prior teachings than create entirely new material.
Typically, I will go over past tests and assignments with a student to assess their strengths and weaknesses. When I see where they are struggling, I will provide support by creating supplemental material for them that is in line with the teachings they are already receiving to practice with my guidance. I also assign homework (the amount is dependent on what the student is comfortable with along with what the student accomplishes during a lesson). Additionally, I provide check in sheets that will allow a student to tell me what they liked and disliked during a lesson and what was most helpful to them so I can continue to adjust and optimize my effectiveness.
I work best with middle school and high school students! I also teach younger students, but less science and math focused and more art focused!
