About Jamie
Having taught in a selective state grammar school for over 20 years I have established strong disciplinary and subject knowledge. I have taught from year 7 to year 13, including GCSE and A level.
I have taught the French Revolution, Irish history from 1789 to 1921, British history from 1625 through to 1921, with a focus on political aspects in particular. As a member of this department I have led the development and delivery of several exam modules.
I am currently the head of department for politics and teach UK and Global aspects of this course.
In terms of exam results the history department has consistently delivered over 95% A* to B with the British module I deliver seeing an average score of 79%. Although being a relatively new department our politics A* to B was 100% last year with over half of students achieving A* to A.

I tend to employ a variety of techniques in tutoring that develop based on working with students and getting to know what works for them. I use simulations, case studies, diachronics, lots of Q+A, grids, graphs and a host of other methods.
A typical lesson would depend on how I assess your need. So, if you need more support with technique issues, lessons would focus on breaking down how you write and looking at where your approach needs attention.
I have lots of experience in teaching A level and individually supporting students at a high level and have, on occasion tutored students who are reapplying, usually for Oxbridge on an ad hoc basis
I am offering tutoring for A level students in history, politics and EPQ. As regards history tutoring my area of particular content expertise is with Edexcel Britain 1625 to 1701 but I would be happy to discuss other areas to see if this could work.
Sessions would typically last between 45mins and 1 hour.
