About Sierra
I recently received my BS in Integrative Studies. I love learning, so I did a combination of marketing/anthropology/international studies.
Before that I did around 2 years of engineering, but decided it wasn't quite for me (though I do love math).
I have taught around 8-10 kids (ages 4-16), around 6 adults (18+ years), and was the group lead for most every group I was in during my undergrad.
I've also done qualitative interview research using the in-person interview method for over a year and a half, which I presented at a scholars panel. I received a grant from my university for my work. (2017-2018)
I've been to 15 countries, 4 continents, and have learned so much! Academically and the ways in which different cultures learn/connect/grow.

My teaching method is to really understand where the core learning issues lie. Working with my student to foster a honest/open and supportive environment, where they are able to make mistakes, and feel comfortable to ask any question they have (no matter how small).
I use visual aids, musical aids, and have on occasion had my student use objects around them (or I've used objects around me) to explain a scenario.
Great visual aids, that are also objects, would be when I've taught fractions/division/tax to younger students. Using anything from pizza to explain percentages, to using money (specifically nickels and pennies) to explain sales tax.
If the student is an auditory learner, teaching them how to create catchy acronyms for certain retention based information, is something I have found to be helpful. I once even created a parody of the song 'Hey Jude' to help a student learn how to spell certain words.
I've taught a variety of students with different strengths and different challenges, but I love to learn how to work with everyone!
