For advanced-level courses, I incorporate authentic materials, such as literature, film, and media, to challenge students and deepen their understanding of the language and culture.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
Warm-Up (5–10 minutes): Begin with a quick review or a short activity, such as discussing a cultural topic, reviewing vocabulary, or practicing conversation.
Core Activity (20–30 minutes): Focus on a key skill or concept, such as grammar, literature analysis, or writing. For example, AP students might analyze a poem or interpret historical texts.
Interactive Practice (15–20 minutes): Engage students in collaborative activities like debates, role-playing, or group discussions. For DC and honors classes, this may include a Socratic seminar.
Closure (5–10 minutes): End with a reflection or formative assessment, such as a brief written response or peer feedback on their speaking skills.
