About Melissa
Hi, my name is Melissa. I recently retired after teaching Special Education for 25 years in the public school setting. My undergraduate degree is in Special Education and my graduate studies are in Behavioral Disorders. I am certified to teach K to 12th grade. I am certified in Varying Exceptionalities- meaning all disabilities. I have worked with students who hold labels such as: mentally handicapped, cognitively challenged, learning disabled, Autism Spectrum: Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD, ADD, OCD, ODD, emotionally handicapped, severely emotionally disturbed and OHI (health impairments such as physical illnesses/handicaps .

I believe in diagnostic teaching and will assess your child's current academic level in all subject areas. You will know your child's strengths, weaknesses and mode of learning. Whether your child is a visual learner or auditory learner we can make an educational treatment plan so that your child meets his/her short term objectives and long term goals. I utilize a plethora of eclectic research-based learning strategies such as multi-sensory instruction and meta- cognitive strategies. I guarantee that your child will increase his/her academic and or social/emotional/behavioral skills. I will be happy to teach your child self- advocacy skills and go over your students schools Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) if you desire.
