About JoAnna
My main instrument is viola. I also teach violin, and with my broad but deep background and training, am also able to advise in several other areas.
I have experience instructing all ages, from youth to college and through older adults. My professional viola performance experience includes full, chamber, and string orchestras; opera; touring shows such as with Broadway and Stage Shows; pit orchestras; performances at Embassies, private homes, wedding events, and more.

First, I find out where my students are in terms of: personal preferences; skill & comfort level; scheduling & work or student-life balance. I meet my students where they are and help them get to where they want to go--if they put in their effort too. We'll have some conversations in the beginning while we try things.
I mostly work with older students (older beginners from late elementary and up, & adults included), as long as they're committed to the process and prepared to meet and rise above challenges along the way. I support students in every way possible and have much in my toolbox to share with different learning styles.
A typical lesson may include: checking-in on the week's progress, warm-ups (scales, theory, technique, études, etc), solo studies, and other applicable repertoire (youth or community orchestra music, audition and performance work, etc).
