About Amanda
My first tutoring job was over 20 years ago for a desperate mom who was just trying to get her son through his required French class. I can still remember his frustration and the way he stormed out on day one. I also have the memory of when he came home with an A- in the class a couple months later. Since that time, I spent 4 years as a teaching assistant in college, and was hired as a professor at a community college. I have enjoyed teaching my own children foreign languages that I hope will help them on their journeys through life and inspire them to travel with confidence.

A typical foreign language lesson with me will primarily be in the chosen language. I deeply feel immersion is the best way to learn. For beginners, I will speak conversationally at first by saying the phrase in a foreign language and then in English. Ex: “Hola, como estas?” Pause for student response Repeat “Hola, como estas?” “Hi, how are you” Etc. The same would be true for more advanced learners, but with an added emphasis on conjugations, irregular verbs and different tenses. Foreign languages are fun! I like to teach with songs and stories and make learning enjoyable for everyone.
