About Ivan
Hi! Are you conversational in Dutch but need to practise more? Do you want to sound more Dutch, improve your understanding of grammar, learn new words? Let me help you!
If you live in or near Cambridge, you are welcome to have the lessons in the beautiful St John's College, or other colleges / locations!
I am from the east of the Netherlands (speaking standard Dutch) and I studied Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Oxford. After a master in international relations in Bologna, I am now studying Heritage Studies at the University of Cambridge.
I am a Latin and Ancient Greek tutor, but have taught a lot of Dutch to some of my friends. I have had peer tutor training and I have also learnt French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Bulgarian.

We can speak about any topic you like, but I suggest taking a look at topics on Dutch culture (traditions, food, cities, history). That way, you'll not only improve your Dutch but also learn new things! I have lived abroad in several countries, and know as no other what it means to be Dutch. We can talk about the news, your holiday plans, the Netherlands in WWII, Dutch Christmas traditions, the Dutch school system, slang... but also about going to the hairdresser, animals, or even the weather! We could use all kinds of materials: websites (from nu.nl to Wikipedia), videos, books (like Nijntje or some serious literature), or why not memes and songs.
Are you interested in etymology, comparative grammar, historical linguistics ...? As a language enthusiast, I will be a good match!
Let me know your preferences and I will try to personalise the lessons. I am always available on social media for questions outside the lessons as well!
