About Heidi
I am a committed life long learner who believes in a growth mindset. As I plan I individualize my lessons to fit the needs of my students always focusing on academic growth. I am responsible, dependable and respectful in my communication. I strive to keep a work/life balance and instill a love of learning in my students. I have a good sense of humor and in my opinion a good thing to have, because if students can see that you can laugh at yourself when you make mistakes it lowers the affective filter for ESL students.

I have 31 years experience in educating children of all nationalities 1st-6th. I am patient, calm, and positive in my communication and teaching. I have a Bachelor's in Science degree from Texas A & M University and I'm taking the ESL certification test next week which will be an additional certification. I took the Texas Reading Academy course (60 hours) on how to teach reading and writing to students K-3. I have also worked as a Campus Reading Specialist and dyslexia teacher. I am passionate about teaching and educating others. I have also mentored and coached teachers on how to instill a love of writing and pass that on to students. The teachers I've mentored have credited me with having taught them so much. I believe in a growth mindset where you may not know it YET, but you will learn it. That's something that to me sets me apart. I apply that to my own life seeing myself is a life-long learner attending classes to further my skills as an educator. I also differentiate to meet the needs of students and I've had many, many students come back to tell me that I made a difference in their lives. I even had a student who I didn't have in my class come back and share that I didn't have any ideas how many seeds I'd planted in other students and how much my support and positivity reached. I hope you'll consider me for a position in educating you or your child.
