About Fate

I have been an educator on multiple levels, spanning from TK to High School, for over 5 years. I take pride in fostering a positive environment that brings excitement to learning, as well as realistic applications. Encouraging students to think outside of the typical box is one of my strengths and I hope to share all of these things with you soon!

My teaching methods emphasize growth mindset and a personalized approach. A typical lesson plan would be as follows:

- Introduction to Learning Target

• Hook: Start with a simple real-life question: ex. “Who has ever shared a pizza with friends?” Discuss how dividing a pizza relates to fractions.
• Objective: Explain that today, we’ll learn about fractions, how to write them, and perform basic operations.

2. Explanation of Fractions (15 minutes)

• Definition: Explain that a fraction represents a part of a whole. The top number (numerator) tells how many parts we have, and the bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
• Examples: Use visual aids like fraction circles or strips to show 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc.
• Writing Fractions: Demonstrate how to write fractions and explain the importance of the numerator and denominator.

3. Practice Identifying Fractions (10 minutes)

• Activity: Ask students to write the fraction that represents the shaded area.
• Discussion: Go over the answers together, ensuring understanding.

4. Simplifying Fractions (10 minutes)

• Explanation: Teach students how to simplify fractions by finding the greatest common divisor of the numerator and denominator.
• Examples: Simplify fractions like 4/8, 3/9, and 6/12 together on the board.

5. Basic Operations with Fractions (10 minutes)

• Addition and Subtraction: Explain how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominators. Provide examples and solve them together.
• Multiplication: Show how to multiply fractions by multiplying the numerators and denominators.
• Practice: Give a few problems to solve on your own

6. Real-Life Application (5 minutes)

• Activity: Use rulers to measure objects in the classroom to the nearest half or quarter inch. Write these measurements as fractions.
• Discussion: Discuss how fractions are used in daily life, such as cooking, shopping, and construction.

7. Conclusion (5 minutes)

• Review: Summarize the key points of the lesson, asking students to share one thing they learned.
• Homework: Finding examples of fractions in everyday life to discuss in the next lesson

Assessment:

• Monitor understanding during class activities and discussions.
• Review the accuracy of worksheet answers and homework assignments to gauge understanding.
