About Mushfiq

I have a friendly, adaptable, and patient teaching/tutoring style that caters for all students. I have good communication skills and an inclusive teaching style. And what I mean by 'inclusive' is that all students irrespective of their abilities and backgrounds have the same opportunity at learning. I have in-depth knowledge of the subject that I am teaching and also an interactive teaching style so that my students feel empowered to participate vehemently in the learning process by asking questions should they have any confusion. I am energetic, industrious, motivational, and also very passionate about the subject that I teach.

When teaching Math I always make sure the students understand the underlying concept thoroughly; because, without a solid and firm understanding they would go nowhere. As long as the theory and concept are clear in their minds they can answer any question or solve any problem flung at them from no matter which angle. I always try to equip my students with solid conceptual understanding and shun rote learning or simple procedural fluency. I also try to encourage at-home ‘Analytical reading’ once I am done with a particular topic. Analytical reading is needed when one wants to fully grasp and appreciate any concept/theory. My teaching methods are tailored to foster independent thinking so that the students when encountering a new theory or a concept always question it from every angle, look at it from every perspective, make the connections, and thereby gain an insight that is further checked for congruence with whatever they know already. I like to go slower and deeper because I believe that once the student's understanding in foundational core areas becomes solid, the overall learning process in the long run becomes highly efficient. When it comes to teaching style, it boils down to a mixture of both explicit instructions and the inquiry based approach model. And what I mean by explicit instructions is that at first I provide extensive modeling of the concept/skill through unambiguous, structured and scaffolded instructions before doing joint practice with the students with frequent opportunities for the students to respond. And finally I let them do a similar problem on their own and this is where the inquiry based approach model would kick in. They would question the problem from every angle, conduct thought research and do everything at their disposal to try to solve the problem. Sometimes some would get stuck and then again I would move on to provide further instructions.
