About Max
My name is Max and I am a graduate of Durham University in the UK. I am currently on a working holiday in Australia before returning home to start training as a teacher.
As part of my masters degree I assisted the professors in running undergraduate seminars, and I spent time editing the university's student history journal.
My lessons are designed to show you why a subject is important, and therefore why it is interesting. Interest in a subject comes from study. Rarely is it the other way around. I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and I aim to show you why.

My lessons seek to turn the topic of each lesson into the student's favourite subject. The most important thing to me is to show the student what makes a subject interesting. The moment of 'I see why this is important' or 'I see why people spend their lives studying this' is what I strive for. At this point most of the 'work' is already done.
The beauty of this approach is that it works for all ages. All it takes is for a student to take a peek behind the curtain at how something they may have paid no attention to, or taken for granted, really works. And how everything -- whether it be a civilisation or a novel -- contains an immense complexity which, crucially, is fully within the abilities of anybody to unravel if it is exposed to them in the right way.
