About Shannon
I am a first year student currently at the University of Exeter studying English literature and Spanish, and have studied music for 10 years teaching flute and piano for the last three years at a beginners level. I have been a tutor for the last two years and am experienced in helping GCSE students. I have always enjoyed tutoring and aspire to help others in achieving their goals. I myself received four 9's four 8's and a 7 at GCSE, with 9's in English literature and music and 8's in English language and Spanish. Having completed my A levels I received three A's. I hope to pass on my love of learning to others, particularly in this difficult time.

My teaching style descends from my personal experience in education. During my GCSEs, I spent time refining a revision method inspired by Competency-Based Learning. This essentially means that I used the Exam Board specification and practice questions to ensure I understood all elements of the syllabus by using resources to fill in any gaps. This structure enabled me to achieve all 8/9s at GCSE and has informed my tutoring style. I provide two types of lesson - the session will either be content-based or exam preparation.
Content-based lessons will be designed with intensive coverage of the topic, (either because the student has missed a lesson in class; wants to get ahead or is struggling with the concepts).
During Exam preparation sessions, I will spend time with the student to fill in any gaps in knowledge, focus on exam technique and practice questions. Before these lessons, I will send a diagnostic quiz/practise questions to see what areas the student struggles with and then alongside the specification, we can work to ensure the student is exam ready. In these lessons, I will use a variety of tools to maximise understanding and ability including - collaborative work on exam practice questions; tips and tricks alongside actively testing the student to identify weaker areas.
