• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak English because I've loved it since I was a child and listened to Madonna and Michael Jackson's songs. As soon as I could I studied it until I spoke it fluently.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  The most emblematic English-speaking person is Queen Elizabeth II. Her English is so pure and distinguished that is ranked the best loved amongst all English accents.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  I love the use of idioms and saying in conversations. They add charm and express "in a nutshell" what the speaker means and "the proof is in the pudding" e.g. "in a nutshell", meaning in short words.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking English matters to me because I love all the cultural aspects that come with it. Also because English is the common language used by everyone around the business world and when travelling.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  The main difficulty when learning English, funnily enough, are the shortest words! The prepositions in, on, at have so many diverse uses that one has to be patient to learn them properly.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  The most fascinating that happened to me when I came to live in England was having to learn to pronounce my name all over again! Because Victoria in Spanish sounds a lot different that in English, believe it or not!

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Having lived in the Caribbean before moving to England, helped me realise the difference between American and British English. During the first two weeks of being here, I struggled to understand the accent but now I much prefer it!

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  What makes me a Superprof is the fact that I carefully design the lesson for each student. I use the method to engage him/her and develop the topic in a familiar context with a relaxed attitude that encourages participation and faster learning.
