Whether you are fine-tuning a written assignment, wrestling with a creative project, or simply looking to strengthen your reading comprehension or command of language, I can put together a lesson plan tailored to your goals. If you have a draft or outline for an academic or professional writing assignment you'd like to work on, I can offer comments, edits, and suggestions for revision at the macro and micro levels. We will begin with a consultation drilling down to the true purpose of your writing, helping you to understand precisely what it is you wish your writing to express. With this clear purpose in mind, I will help you to build and organize compelling arguments, explanations, and narratives that put the language to work for you. Along the way, we will uncover grammatical and stylistic best practices and other tricks-of-the-trade that will make your writing sing. It is my goal to ensure my clients understand not just the WHAT of great writing but also the WHY, leaving you with a deep understanding of how the language functions and can be harnessed to produce compelling and impactful work. If you are working on a creative project, I can offer a substantive critique—covering the tone, voice, and thematic development of your work—as well as suggestions for revision. As a published and award-nominated poet, I can also help you polish the lyricism and artistry of your writing. For those looking for general tutoring in reading comprehension and writing skills, I have a variety of tutoring materials and lesson plans prepared, depending on your grade-level and needs.

Justin helped me with editing the first chapter of my PhD thesis. He went through my writing very thouroghly and made excellent suggestions. English is my second language, and writing long manuscripts in English is a challenge. Justin spotted points of weaknesses in my writing very well and explained how I can address them. For example, he showed me how I can re-arrange my paragraphs or rephrase my sentences to make my writing more coherent. I applied what I had learned from Justin when I was writing my next chapters, and my first drafts need a lot less editing!
