About Leigh-Anne

One word comes to mind when I think about my career and that is: "lucky."

My career in ESL has been very exciting and dynamic. I have worked for well-respected institutions such as the University of Cape Town, where I taught at their English Language Centre, as well as reputable language schools like International House, and also international corporations, where I trained senior executive teams in strategic Business English.

Above and beyond the big company names, though, I have been extremely lucky to build strong working relationships with my students - I often say that I learn as much from them as they do from me!

I started my teaching career in Phuket, Thailand, in 2009, where I taught children and high school students. I really enjoyed working with people from different cultures. I actually then went on to work in PR and journalism, where I got to keep tapping into my love of the English language. With print media taking a hit, I decided to pivot back into teaching - and I am so glad I did.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching remarkable people from around the globe, and it has been so rewarding to help them achieve their goals and see their progress in real time! There is something awesome about seeing a student go from speaking just a few words in English to expressing themselves confidently... Or hearing that a student passed their English exam with flying colours.

My students say I am a kind teacher with a high level of professionalism. It's important to me that my students feel comfortable, as I realise speaking another language can be nerve-wracking!

I am passionate about tailoring classes to my students' needs, ages, backgrounds, and interests. It's vital to me that they feel engaged in the lessons and feel motivated to keep going. In addition to English proficiency exam preparation, I offer General English training and Business English courses.

On a personal note, I love the outdoors and often spend time in nature with my two energetic dogs.

About the lesson

I like to make every minute of your lesson count! We will do a thorough assessment of your needs and challenges, so that every class is 100% focused on helping you make real progress and achieve your goals.

My technique is hands-on and I encourage students to be actively involved in their learning. For instance, if you are struggling with essay writing, I will encourage you to write as many essays as possible, and I will give you constructive feedback to help you improve. It is important to me that my students see real progress.

I will develop a learning plan around your time requirements, for instance, if you have an exam coming up in 3 months, I will adapt your course and prioritise accordingly. I believe it is extremely important to learn effective exam strategies and to understand how to manage your time effectively in the exam.

I am an approachable and patient teacher, and I will motivate you to reach your potential! I have had many satisfied students. I am always gratified when they achieve their goals. I like to develop a great working relationship with my students and give them individual attention.
