About Sofie
Teaching is something which comes very naturally to me and indeed is the career I have always wanted. When I was 17, I taught Irish language in Gaeltacht areas in the West of Ireland so my skills in engaging with teenagers in a way they find accessible are pretty advanced. At 20 years old, I moved to Italy for a summer and taught english language to a young Italian boy. While this was more of a linguistic type of teaching, it taught me a lot about preparing lessons and worksheets in ways that were memorable and interesting. I've taken seminars in the Institute of Education at Leeson Street in Dublin and I remember being taught by this amazing English teacher who had my eyes glued to the blackboard and my ears tuned in to what he was saying from the beginnning to the end of the class because he was so engaging and made lessons something I actually enjoyed. English schoolwork while stressful, doesn't have to be boring and this has been at the forefront of my mind during all of my teaching jobs so far and will continue to be during my time as your tutor.

I've been passionate about English literature for as long as I can remember and achieved an A grade in my Junior Certificate [GCSE equivalent] and an A1 in my Leaving Certificate [A-Level Equivalent]. I moved to Belfast and graduated from Queen's in May 2017 with a degree in English and history. While I find history very interesting, I knew my true passion was in English so I'm currently completing a Master's in English Literary Studies and sitting on a distinction so far . I'm a very analytical person so if you are finding it difficult to engage with poetry and novels on a personal level and think a little differently about your course material, I would say I would be particularly helpful in that regard. I'm a very genuine person so as a tutor, I'll be helpful while also being a friend without having the teacher-student dynamic that exists in schools and often can leave shy students worried about asking questions. As a quiet person who has developed a lot since coming to university, I'm someone who you will be able to ask anything without fear of judgement since both teaching and being kind are my main passions in life!

Sofie has a great, contagious passion for her subject that helps students engage with it while under her tutorage. She has a tremendous affinity and great intuition for English literature, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with, and encourage students.
I first met Sofie a year and a half ago, through out university as we both ended up in the same history class, she was always friendly and indeed had an amazing grasp of the reading material for the course. Her insights, honesty as well as her willingness to help out if you perhaps didn't fully grasp a historical concept meant we became firm friends. Her love of life, poetry and reading meant that she became my official proof-reader for essays and coursework, indeed I was more than willing to return the favour when she asked me to read her dissertation which was amazing in terms of detail and analysis. It is for these reasons stated above that I am sure that Sofie has the ability to be a wonderful tutor as you would be hard-pressed to find a better teacher or friend than Sofie.
