About Emma
After studying Creative Writing in my undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California, I continued my education at the University of Granada where I'm working on my Master's in English Literature. During that time, I've taught in schools as well as online, for a variety of age groups and subjects.
Poetry has been my primary interest in the literary field for years now. I started writing when I was young, and really discovered my passion for it during college. In 2023, I came 2nd place in the Undergraduate Writer's Conference and later that year I received the Silverman Family Memorial Award for Poetry.
I also have experience working behind the scenes of a popular Chicago poetry journal, RHINO Poetry. This gave me a lot of insight into contemporary poetry as well!
I love poetry, and it gives me so much joy to help others find or continue developing their relationship with poems. I hope you'll give it a try!

Hi! I'm Emma, a Master's student in English Literature. I've been teaching online and in-person for the past two years. I love poetry and I want to share my passion and knowledge with anybody who is interested in the classic art form.
My lesson structure usually includes reading a poem for homework and analyzing it in class. We'll discover poems of all different genres, eras, and styles, learning about what makes a poem work. That is, literary devices, poetic forms, generative practice, and more!
After getting comfortable with all the elements of poetry, we'll also experiment with writing poems of our own. The split between reading and writing is dependent on the student's interests. I'm open to teaching all levels -- beginners welcome!
Looking forward to meeting you soon!
