I teach up to IB (A level/ Pre-U equivalent) in English Literature/Language and Geography. I am also able to teach up to GCSE/iGCSE level in various core subjects. I graduated from a top British boarding school with 43/45 on my IB diploma. I am familiar with the system and my knowledge is fresh and up to date regarding exams and current syllabuses. I am due to graduate from LSE with a predicted first class honours in my degree this summer.
I have experience being a peer tutor at my previous school having specialised in helping other pupils primarily with geography. I have also taught English in China to nursery/primary school children in my Summer holidays. I tutored extensively during my gap year and all of my students experienced an improvement in their grades. Additionally, I can help to a certain extent with entry exams for selective secondary schools having been a scholarship recipient at my previous school.
I believe it is important to create a positive learning environment as this generates the feeling of wanting to learn. It also puts the pupil at ease to make mistakes which are an integral part of the learning process. I know from experience how feeling intimidated can greatly hinder the learning process. I am also available by email and encourage pupils to send me any questions they may have regarding their work. If the issue is more complex, I am able to explain it properly at the next tutoring session.
For every new pupil I do a first assessment to gain an understanding of where the pupil is currently at and their 'problem areas' so that I can help to advance their understanding of the subject. I understand that everyone's learning style is different so I also aim to adapt my teaching methods to the individual.
