About Safiya
I am a 3rd year English PhD student with 3 years of experience teaching writing, reading, and cultural studies at an undergraduate level. I have taught students individually, run a classroom of 23+, and taught seminars of up to 100+. Alongside running and designing my own curriculum around writing and reading techniques, I have assisted multiple professors in the teaching and grading of history, literature, sociology, and pedagogy classes.

I love teaching and getting to know my students as individuals first and foremost. I've taught age groups ranging from pre k to undergraduates and I believe that at every stage the lives my students lead outside of my classroom impacted what they needed from me. I believe that a teacher should work hard to be both mentor and friend to their students, and that my responsibility to my kids extends past their academic growth and into their safety and growth as a person, and that they in turn teach me and help me grow. I am flexible, try to make learning interesting to each student individually, and tend to use music, comedy, art, and shared conversation to teach.
