About Joshua
I have 19 years of experience as an expert professor and teacher. See below for a sample of student observations. Dr. Avery is an OUTSTANDING professor. I am a science major, therefore I was less than enthused when I found out that I was required to take 2 additional literature classes on top of ENGL comp 1&2. However, Dr. Avery has made British Literature a very enjoyable class for me. Dr. Avery is passionate about literature and it shines through in his teaching. He is very approachable, kind, and wants his students to succeed. Those who do not do well in the course is due to their lack of ambition to do so. I am DEFINITELY taking my next literature course from him; I think very highly of him and UMHB is SO lucky to have him on staff. Dr. Avery is a great teacher! I walked into this class dreading it, but I left with so much knowledge and ability to think outside of the box. He made class interesting, and full of examples to help the students learn some of the heavier readings. He opened the floor up for discussion which allowed many people to obtain other perspectives from the other students. AMAZING TEACHER! At the beginning of the course I struggled, but have significantly grown intellectually through the challenge the material of the course gives me. I would recommend anyone to take this course with this professor.
