About Bhavika
I am an Adjunct Professor of English at a public university in the United States. I have an MFA in Creative Writing and a BA in English Literature. I have taught courses in English composition, introductory literature, and academic writing, and have also tutored at my university's Writing Center.

I strive, as a teacher, to create learning environments in which students think for themselves, trust their own critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities, and take control over their creative processes. Students need to be active participants in making, discovering, and discerning knowledge, and because no two students learn the same way, instruction needs to be responsive, differentiated, and tied to dynamic, ongoing assessment in order for it to be effective. For this reason, I walk into the classroom every morning with the goal of better understanding my students’ particular interests, needs, and background knowledge, and equipping them with the resources that allow them to build on what they already know, measure their own growth, and become independent learners. Additionally, I show them ways to develop and apply these tools and strategies in the future and familiarize themselves with literacies that extend beyond academic contexts, in order to prepare them for professional success—in fields ranging from media and marketing to scriptwriting and spoken word poetry.
