About Ryan
I'm a high school senior soon headed to university to major in English and Film studies, with a GPA of 3.9, an English score on my SAT in the 99th percentile, and two scores of 5 in AP English Language and AP English Literature-- for AP Lit, I self-studied and still managed to achieve that score a year before I even took the class.
I've been reading and writing since I was in kindergarten, and have won two writing awards, the first being a $1,000 first-place prize and the other a second-place prize for $200. I've also been shortlisted in several other contests.
I currently tutor with Schoolhouse, and am hoping to extend farther into the tutoring world.

I prefer to work over Zoom, and I'm a big fan of getting to know my students so that they can feel more comfortable with me and can more easily ask questions that might have been difficult, or even embarrassing, to ask before.
My lessons are for students at a middle school to high school level, and typically consist of a brief icebreaker, a presentation of a core concept, and a writing piece to go over that further explores the core concept. Along the way we talk about the piece, what questions might accompany it on a test or essay, and how to best approach it. I try to fill my lessons with other details like unreliable narrators, characterization, and plenty of book recommendations, of course.
Each student is then given a brief assessment of what we went over and the answers are discussed at the end. If I'm to be tutoring someone in writing, we would practice together and learn about figurative language, distinct styles, and grammar throughout the lesson.
Every student's unique. I believe in planning each lesson based on their needs rather than sticking to strict curriculums that may not be helpful to them in the long run.
