Darren and I are former colleagues. He was responsible for Teaching and Learning across the school we both worked in. He is an expert in teaching strategies, learning science and of course English as a subject. He is also patient, funny and great at motivating teenagers. Darren taught me both A level English Literature and Language and I achieved an A grade in both! What’s more he inspired me to be an English teacher and I have been privileged enough to work with him for a number of years. Darren taught me for both English Literature and English Language A level and ensured I achieved the top grade in both, going on to study English at a Russell Group University. Even whilst studying at University, there were a couple of modules where - feeling lost in large seminar groups - I returned to my old notes from Darren’s A level lessons, still finding the approaches he had taught me invaluable. He boosts confidence; he simplifies and re-explains where necessary; he makes texts feel relatable. Time and time again I have seen him equip students (and student teachers alike!) to reach their potential, all with humour and warmth.
