About Christopher
Hi there!
My name is Chris and I am an English teacher in the Bronx, New York.
I'm an avid reader (once reading 52 books in a year!) and enjoy writing in my spare time.
My favorite subject to teach my students is writing.
I have helped create a Writing Revolution centered curriculum for special education school and still use it nearly 6 years later.
Fun fact, I received my Bachelors in English Literature and my "memoir" I wrote was used by my writing teacher as an exemplar model of what the final should look like.

My lessons typically start with an assessment of student writing, then evaluating what specific needs the student has that would be the highest leverage. I also believe that reading is inheritably tied to writing, and as such my lessons will incorporate a reading and literacy component. I like using engaging high interest texts that students can either relate to or find an enjoyment from and do writing exercises about that content.
I work from a sentence and grammar first focus. I don't expect students to write 4-5 paragraphs when a sentence can be challenging. By starting small, I establish a strong foundation and that can set the student up for success.
Another area I like to focus in is the importance of prewriting. Many students struggle to utilize it, although some just haven't been taught it. Planning out and mapping your writing is nearly as important as the words on the page.
I have worked with students from kindergarten to college aged, with my focus on high school aged students and adults.
