The first thing that I try to do as a teacher is to learn about my students. What are their assignments? What are their trouble spots and strengths? What will be most useful for them? How can we bring in things that he or she is interested into their work so it’s not like pulling teeth for them to finish assignments?
I also realize that many students have a significant amount of writing/public speaking anxiety, so I make sure to take things step by step with those students to mitigate that anxiety.
