About Emily
Hello, I’m Emily — a dedicated English tutor with over 11 years of experience and a PhD in English Literature. I specialise in supporting GCSE and A-Level students with English Language and Literature, helping them improve their confidence, sharpen their skills, and achieve the grades they’re aiming for. I’ve taught students from a wide range of backgrounds and ability levels, and I understand how to adapt my approach to suit each individual — whether they’re striving for a top grade or rebuilding confidence after a setback. I’ve also taught on undergraduate courses at university level, so I bring both academic depth and practical teaching experience to every session. I work with all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE) and can help with: - Essay structure and argument development - Close reading and literary analysis - Exam preparation and revision strategies - Coursework planning and feedback - Grammar, clarity, and written expression I believe in creating a supportive, encouraging space where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. My lessons are calm, focused, and designed to help students truly understand what examiners are looking for — while also building confidence and clarity in their own writing. With over 11 years of experience and a PhD in English Literature, I specialise in helping GCSE and A-Level students improve their essay technique, close reading, argument structure, and exam performance. I work with all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE) and tailor lessons to each student’s specific syllabus, goals, and areas of difficulty. I break complex ideas down into manageable steps, so students can build a strong foundation in literary analysis and essay writing — whether they’re aiming for a top grade or trying to get back on track. My approach is supportive but high-achieving: I create a space where students feel safe to make mistakes, ask questions, and develop their skills at a pace that works for them. Every lesson is tailored to the individual — and wherever possible, I bring in topics, texts, or examples that connect with their interests to make the material more engaging and memorable.
