About Collette
I have spent four enthusiastic years helping more than 140 students build strong foundations in chemistry. My background includes a degree in chemistry and teacher training focused on inclusive science education. I began tutoring after working as a laboratory technician and classroom assistant, where I observed that many students struggled with chemistry because of gaps in basic understanding rather than lack of ability. I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities and backgrounds, including those with learning differences and those who speak English as an additional language. My students appreciate my patience, my clear explanations, and my ability to make chemistry feel manageable and interesting. I design custom worksheets and visual materials that target common misconceptions and build confidence through progressive success. Outside of teaching, I enjoy science outreach, volunteering at local schools, and exploring the chemistry of food and cooking. I believe that every student can succeed in chemistry with the right support, and I am dedicated to providing that support with energy, empathy, and expertise.

My chemistry teaching is enthusiastic and foundation-focused, designed to build confidence and competence in students who are new to the subject or who have previously struggled. I begin with the fundamental concepts of atomic structure, bonding, and the periodic table, ensuring that students have a solid conceptual base before moving to more complex topics. For physical chemistry, I teach the mole concept, chemical equations, and stoichiometry through step-by-step methods that build systematic problem-solving skills. I use extensive visual aids, including diagrams, animations, and molecular models, to make abstract concepts concrete. My lessons are highly interactive, with frequent questioning, immediate feedback, and opportunities for students to explain concepts in their own words. I emphasise the connections between chemistry and everyday life, using examples from cooking, cleaning, medicine, and environmental science to illustrate chemical principles. For exam preparation, I teach careful reading of questions, systematic calculation methods, and the precise use of chemical terminology. I also help students develop effective study habits, note-taking strategies, and revision schedules. My sessions are supportive, encouraging, and designed to help every student experience success in chemistry.
