About Zachary
ESL is part of a thirteen-year tutoring career during which I have taught 590 students, approaching those years with real intensity and a genuine hunger to keep improving as a teacher. My personality in the classroom tends toward enthusiastic and a little informal, and I often use humor to ease the tension many students already associate with speaking a new language in public. I specialize particularly in working with students who feel behind their peers, since rebuilding that confidence quickly, without making them feel babied, is something I have become genuinely skilled at. Watching a student move from anxious guesswork to confident everyday English speech remains deeply satisfying to me.

I treat every first session as an investigation rather than a lesson, spending most of the time asking questions and listening rather than teaching, so I understand exactly where a student's understanding breaks down before deciding how to help them. My approach leans on Socratic questioning, guiding students through smaller questions rather than handing over ready-made answers, since conclusions reached independently stick far longer in a student's memory. Sessions stay fast-paced, switching between talking, writing, and practice every few minutes to keep focus sharp during our time together. I encourage students to test their own hypotheses on paper before I confirm or correct them, building genuine confidence and intuition over time.
