About Megan
I am currently a postgraduate student at the Courtauld Institute of Art studying the conservation of easel paintings. I previously studied History of Art at the University of Birmingham with a particular focus on northern renaissance art.
Conservation is an interdisciplinary subject that brings together art history, fine arts and natural sciences. The nature of this course means that I have studied chemistry, maths, fine art and art history in detail, and combine these daily to critically evaluate and treat each painting I am given. My course is placed in the broadest context of historical and contemporary practise and forces me to use my subject-based learning to problem-solve with my practical work. By using these transferable skills, I hope to work closely with each student in tutoring sessions to work through problems that arise in their everyday studies, or specific homework questions, consolidating their learning and helping them develop their skillset as they progress through school.
I have a wide range of tutoring experience ranging from primary school students, to year 11 GCSE candidates. I spent a year working in a secondary school before my postgrad, providing extra support in core subjects for secondary school students with special educational needs, particularly in core science classes and foundation level maths sets. I worked with students with disabilities and learning difficulties such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy and ADHD, and helped prepare resources to support the teacher, adapting lessons and curriculum to be more accessible. Before university, I also volunteered as a history and fine art ambassador at my secondary school, which involved tutoring a small group fo GCSE students. I also planned and delivered swimming lessons to young children at a local club. During my undergraduate, I volunteered as a studio assistant at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, assisting in art workshops to children of all ages, and was a part-time paid climbing instructor at a climbing centre in central Birmingham. I enjoy teaching, and am keen to help out students with any topics they find difficult.
My tutoring style is very conversational, and I aim to tailor my sessions to the individual needs of the students, establishing which skills would be most useful to help them progress rather than finishing tasks as quickly as possible. I often adapt lessons as they unfold, focusing on the consolidation of the students knowledge and encouraging them to work independently when needed. I am happy to set homework questions to review, but am focused on creating a working environment where students feel comfortable to ask as many questions as they can.

Megan worked as a teaching assistant at the Highfield School and was a valued member of the Learning Development Department. Megan worked with a wide range of students with differing needs across key stage 3 and key stage 4. Megan supported students in the mainstream classroom and also within our Learning Development area. She read, acted as a scribe and supports students and was a key worker/mentor to a range of students. Megan has excellent listening skills and is a team player. She is reliable and had a good attendance record and I had no concerns regarding her conduct as an employee of the school. I would whole heartedly recommend Megan for any teaching/tuition role and I feel she would be an asset to any employer.
Megan tutored my son whilst he was in year 11, tutoring him for GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. He was low in confidence and doubted his ability. Megan's professional and friendly style was just what he needed to help him progress. He gained confidence and over the course of the year his work improved immensely.
Megan was able to help him develop his writing style, and go through the main areas for revision to improve his knowledge and understanding of the subject. He felt very prepared to sit his exams at the end of year 11.
I am now using Megan to tutor my daughter who is in year 10 with her Maths, and will have English tutoring too.Megan tutored my son whilst he was in year 11, tutoring him for GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.
