About Rebecca
I’m an ESL educator with 20 years of experience and a master’s degree in TESOL from NYU. I’ve taught English in the United States, Japan, and China to learners ranging from age 2 to adults. I currently serve as the Head of ESL at a leading independent school in New York City.
My teaching is student-centered. I get to know each learner’s goals, build on their strengths, and create a supportive space where they feel comfortable practicing English and making mistakes. Seeing students grow in both skill and confidence is what I enjoy most about teaching.

My teaching approach: I use a student-centered approach that builds English skills and confidence together. I encourage students to ask questions, try new things, and make mistakes as part of learning. My role is to guide and support them, with plenty of opportunities to practice rather than listen to a lecture.
A typical lesson: We begin with a warm-up, such as journal writing, a daily editing exercise, or an English language game. I then introduce the lesson, guide the student through practice, and use hands-on activities to help them apply what they’ve learned. I adjust each lesson to the student’s goals and needs.
What sets me apart: With 20 years of TESOL teaching experience in the United States, Japan and China, I know how much confidence matters when learning a language. I create a welcoming space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and can see their progress over time.
Who I teach: I work with students in grades 5–12 and adults, from beginners to advanced English learners. Lessons are tailored to each student, whether they want to strengthen specific language skills or feel more confident using English.
