About Ian
I received my MS.c. in cognitive science with concentrations in linguistics and human intelligence. What makes me a good tutor is that I have learned a foreign language myself. So, I understand the difficulties my students might have. Likewise, I also know how to address them.
My expertise includes teaching everything from basic skills to business English. Most recently, I have taught English as a foreign language online with VIP Kids and VIPX for over a year. I have also given many lessons to adult learner's. As such, I am used to the unique challenges that learning online can bring. Many of my students have achieved high scores in the PET, KET, FCE, and IELTS. My experience also includes teaching German and South Korean, US government employees business English.
Finally, I have a strong background in tutoring student who wish to improve their academic English. In general, I have also taught in a school-aged center in Germany where I received an award for the quality of my programs.

I am a dedicated and patient teacher. I am also highly adaptable to the student's learning styles and needs. As such, my teaching method is eclectic and often based on what works best for my students. Yet, I believe that every lesson should be more than just memorizing rules and vocabulary. It is important that lessons connect to the student's life and interests. I believe that a student learns best when they are motivated, comfortable, engaged, and feel like they can contribute to the conversation; therefore, my teaching style reflects this.
