About Marisa
I am an ESL total immersion teacher. I have a BA in English Literature and an MA in Italian Studies from Middlebury College. For my Master's, I attended Middlebury College's Summer Language School before my year abroad at the University of Florence in Italy. I worked as an ESL teacher at the Technical University of Dresden in Germany and Berlitz Dresden. Recently I worked as an ESL teacher and Literacy Volunteer at the Saratoga Springs Public Library. I learned to speak both Italian and German in Italy and Germany respectively.

I am a total immersion teacher. I never translate for my students. I teach in the target language from the very first lesson. Using total physical response, I will teach the verb "sitting" by sitting. I will teach the word pen by showing a pen. Students learn more effectively and efficiently when they speak in the language they are learning. Student participation is very important. They learn by doing and speaking. They are active! I will start with a few new vocabulary words, introduce them, practice them with the student. Then the student practices on their own with my guidance. Speaking always comes first, with reading and writing second. My teaching is student-centered always.
