About Ashley
Hello! My name is Ashley and I'm currently doing my exchange year at the University of Melbourne, and I am planning to become a teacher after I graduate. I really enjoy balancing my time between academic study and my hobbies such as crocheting, playing chess, cooking and creative writing (a lot of C's!) and my social life. I think Mathematics is an incredibly diverse and interesting subject which has countless applications in the real world. Learning mathematics provides you with an extremely valuable skill set of problem-solving, reasoning and so much more. Overcoming the challenges that come with the journey of improving in this subject is especially rewarding, and I want every student to be able to feel like they are capable of understanding mathematics and being fluent in it.

With any topic, I like to start from the basics. An understanding of the fundamentals will make it much easier to start learning the harder concepts! Sometimes things just don't make sense and that's okay! That's when we rely on intuition and simple explanations to help us. It's extremely satisfying when you finally understand something after being stuck, so that is my main aim for any lesson.
Usually, when a planned lesson focuses on revision, starting off with quick and easy warm-up questions is my favourite thing to do. Just like exercise, any good revision session needs to start with relaxation, familiarity and confidence. On the other hand, if I need to teach a completely new topic, I think it is extremely important to provide motivation for anything new, whether by asking the right questions or giving examples.
Lessons are usually between 1 and 2 hours depending on the student's preference, and I'm currently tutoring between the primary and high school level. I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience from my time at university in the UK.
