About ANEESH

Born in 1989, his talent was recognized when he played the song ‘There’s a land that is fairer than day’ at the age of 6 in the mini synthesizer Casio PT-1. Started taking piano lessons from Mr. Thomas at the age of 9 and later continued his piano lessons under Mr. Jimmy Mathew, Harmony School of Music, Thrissur. He was later introduced to Western Classical music by Dr. Aswan Thomas Elias, under whose tutelage he passed the Grade 8 in Piano and Electronic Keyboard of Trinity College London. His teaching career started in the year 2006. His love for church music goes back to 2002 when he became the organist of CSI St. Thomas Church, Mannuthy. He started home tuitions when he was only 16 years old. Along with his studies, he joined Harp N’ Lyre music academia in India as a Piano and Electronic Keyboard Teacher. Later on, he expanded his skills to include Recorder, Singing, Drums, Guitar and Violin. A bunch of good teachers at Harp N’ Lyre helped him to achieve greater heights in these instruments, as well as picking up skills of his own accord. He has also completed Grade 8 in Recorder and Music Theory from Trinity College London, Grade 6 in Music Theory from Australian Music Educations Board and till Grade 5 in other instruments. He has been leading Choir of CSI St. Thomas Church, Punnakkad from 2018. An energetic church pianist, he sharpens his abilities in going with and ad-libbing on conventional church hymns. He is pursuing his doctoral degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India.

We have developed a syllabus convenient for the students from the age 5 and above. The lessons will be taught at the beginning and the students must practice it. During the session, students can clarify their doubts. He/she should play the lesson in the next class, very beginning. In my lessons I work on rhythm, note reading and playing with the correct technique. I really want the foundation of the student to be perfect. Playing music by reading musical notations is strongly encouraged along with playing by ear.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Music, for me, is both a discipline and a language of expression. I teach Piano, Violin, Guitar, Recorder, Singing, and Music Theory, which allows students to experience music in a well-rounded way—melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and expressive. Each instrument develops a different musical skill, and together they help students grow into confident and sensitive musicians.

My interest in music began at a very young age. I was naturally drawn to sound, melody, and rhythm, and learning my first instrument sparked a deep curiosity about how music works. Over time, this curiosity grew into formal training, performance experience, and eventually teaching. As I learned more instruments and studied music theory, I realized how interconnected all aspects of music are.

Teaching became a natural extension of my journey. I found great joy in helping students understand music, not just technically, but emotionally and creatively as well. Guiding students as they discover their musical voice and develop discipline, confidence, and appreciation for music is what continues to inspire me in this field.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

My motivation to teach comes from the impact music has had on my own life and the desire to pass that on to others. Music shaped my discipline, sensitivity, and confidence, and I strongly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience that growth through music.

I have been inspired by my teachers and mentors, who not only taught me techniques and theory but also encouraged creativity, patience, and self-belief. Their guidance showed me that teaching is not just about instruction—it is about nurturing potential.

What truly motivates me to teach is seeing students progress, whether it’s a beginner playing their first piece, a student gaining confidence in singing, or someone finally understanding a musical concept they once found difficult. Knowing that I can help students develop skills that stay with them for life—focus, expression, discipline, and emotional awareness—gives my work deep meaning.

Teaching allows me to combine my passion for music with the joy of shaping young minds, and that purpose continues to motivate me every day.
  • How does your work help society?

My work helps society by nurturing well-rounded individuals through music. Music education develops discipline, patience, creativity, and emotional intelligence—qualities that are essential not only in the arts but in everyday life. Through learning instruments, singing, and music theory, students gain confidence, focus, and a sense of responsibility.

Music also brings people together. Whether through group classes, performances, or collaborative learning, students learn teamwork, listening skills, and mutual respect. These experiences help build empathy and communication, which are vital for a healthy and connected society.

In addition, music provides a positive and meaningful outlet for self-expression. It supports emotional well-being, helps reduce stress, and gives students a constructive way to channel their feelings. By guiding students to appreciate music deeply and practice it sincerely, I contribute to preserving cultural values while also encouraging creativity and innovation.

Ultimately, by shaping students who are expressive, disciplined, and socially aware, my work contributes to building a more balanced, compassionate, and culturally enriched society.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I don’t think of a single person as my role model; rather, I draw inspiration from a combination of my teachers, mentors, and great music educators I have learned from over the years. Each of them contributed something unique—discipline, musical depth, patience, and the ability to connect with students.

What I admire most in a role model is someone who balances strong musical standards with genuine care for students. The teachers who influenced me most were those who could inspire a love for music while maintaining structure and clarity in learning. They taught me that effective teaching is not just about technical excellence, but about understanding students, encouraging them, and guiding them at their own pace.

This approach continues to shape my work today. I strive to be the kind of teacher who challenges students to do their best while also creating a supportive and motivating learning environment. That balance is what I aim to reflect in my teaching every day.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, my main hobbies are listening to music, composing, and regularly practicing my instruments. Listening to a wide range of music helps me stay inspired and continuously refine my musical understanding. It also allows me to introduce fresh ideas, styles, and examples into my teaching.

Composing music is another important part of my life. It gives me a creative outlet and helps me explore musical ideas more deeply, which in turn strengthens how I teach theory, expression, and interpretation to my students.

Practicing my lessons and instruments keeps me connected to the learning process myself. It reminds me of the importance of discipline, consistency, and patience—qualities I encourage in my students. These hobbies help me grow both as a musician and as a teacher, ensuring that I continue to bring enthusiasm and creativity into the classroom.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

One experience that has stayed with me is with a young beginner who initially struggled with rhythm and confidence. During the first few classes, the student was hesitant to play and often felt discouraged when mistakes happened. Instead of rushing through lessons, I focused on small, achievable goals—simple rhythm clapping, short melodic phrases, and lots of encouragement.

Over time, the student began to relax and enjoy the process. A few months later, during a small class performance, this same student confidently played an entire piece with steady rhythm and a smile. What stood out to me was not just the musical improvement, but the growth in confidence and self-belief.

That moment reminded me why I teach. Music is not only about notes and technique—it is about helping students overcome fear, develop patience, and discover their own potential. Experiences like this continue to motivate me in my professional life.
