About Jessica
Growing up in Brooklyn NY in the early 90s, it was hard not to be inspired by the amazing music around me. I began my love of hip hop and Freestyle at the age of 8 years old. By the age of 9 I began chopping up samples of songs and soundbytes of commercials with a two deck tape boombox, a fisher price record player, and a mini Casio keyboard. Now, armed with two turntables (and often one or to midi samplers or synthesizers) , and a controller, along with an encyclopedic knowledge of old school hip hop and freestyle goodness, I bring my deep love for break beats and freestyle goodness to the dance floor for your dancing pleasure and occasionally beat battles across NY and New Orleans.

I know first hand how intimidating it can be stepping into the cis male dominated world of DJ and beat production as a woman and as a member of the LGTBQ community. In my journey I have experienced many male dominated spaces and knew that when I learned and got experience, I wanted to create a safe space for other women and queer people where they can embrace the journey of learning this amazing craft. Growing up in NYC, I began attending battles at the age of 17 but didnt start DJing until my 40s. Its never too late! I have had over 5 residencies and played venues big and small across NYC and New Orleans.
I began making beats for myself to scratch to and became addicted. I have won three beat battles, and produce mostly boom bap hiphop beats on a regular basis.
I can teach you the foundations will help to propel your future learning. Learning the right foundations first is so important! I will teach you song structure, foundations of beat matching, how to organize your crates (digital or vinyl) and more. I can also help you trouble shoot your djing set up issues.
Let me know what YOU want to learn!
