About Harriet
As a qualified teacher in both the UK and China, I have experience teaching English in the UK to secondary students, tutored primary pupils and taught English as a Foreign Language abroad in China. I have also worked with adults in conversational language acquisition and improving written work. Not only do I have a degree in English teaching, but also a diploma in educational leadership and an International Relations bachelors degree.

The confidence and success of students is my main priority. Through treating pupils as individuals, understanding their needs and planning accordingly, I have a proven track record of increasing students' confidence and ability in English.
For school students, I understand that when a pupil doesn't have the underlying confidence in a subject, especially English, it can affect all of their other subjects too. Through a student-led planning approach, I will work with the pupil to teach, revise or review what they need so that they can not only fix these areas, but also feel happier when in class at school and feel proud of their progress.
I have taught GCSE English Language and Literature to students with high and low targets the majority of whom have not only reached their target, but gained a grade above. Revision skills are key and I will teach students the different ways to do this that are supported by research that will help them learn the knowledge they need to pass and excel in their exams.
For adults, a key area is focusing on conversational English to feel confident when practicing the language. We will work on pronunciation and colloquialisms to develop the ability to sound like a native speaker. If required, I have previously worked with pupils on their written or business specific vocabulary.
