Here's what you can expect from my lessons:

1. Understanding Individual Needs: My personalized approach starts with assessing each student's needs as no two students have the same experience. I consider their English experience, learning preferences, goals, and areas needing support. This involves conversations and observation.
2. Collaborative Approach: I work closely with students, encouraging active participation. This involves open communication and feedback. I want students comfortable asking questions, expressing concerns, and owning their progress.
3. Continuous Improvement: I constantly reflect and seek improvements. I stay updated on teaching methods and resources, and I'm always open to student feedback. I believe in lifelong learning, constantly refining my skills to better serve my students.
4. Customizable Schedule: I offer flexible lesson times and I am happy to discuss your availability to create a schedule that meets your needs.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

As an individual, I have always had an interest in the intricacies of language, its development and its use.
English Language has gone through a lot of refining and adaptation in past years, and this is one of the interesting factors that have drawn me towards impacting knowledge in this field.
It is interesting to realise the tremendous impact that could be made in helping others delve into the art of language.
I love witnessing the "aha" moment when a concept clicks, and I'm proud to play a part in my students' educational journey
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English Language and I absolutely enjoy talking about topics like creative writing, language change and evolution, grammar and literary devices. It is amazing how these topics creates a space for my students and I to explore and connect, especially during discussions.
I also find it rewarding assisting my students reach their potential and hit milestones, while improving their creative writing skills.
Topics I would find a little less interesting would be topics bothering around strict grammatical rules. Every student deserves an enabling environment that aims to bring out the best in them.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

In High School, I always looked forward to English Classes and English Literature classes.
My High school English teacher, Mrs. Franklin, was an inspiration. She had a way of making complex texts engaging and her passion for literature was contagious. This encouraged me to think critically and has served me well in my own teaching practice. I'm grateful for her influence.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor should possess empathy and patience. It is important to create a safe learning space and supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and asking questions.
A good tutor should also be adaptable and willing to adjust the needs of each student.
Lastly, good communication skills and passion is essential as it can make the most challenging topics engaging and enjoyable.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I had a memorable experience in High school, during English classes, where we were made to take the roles of characters while studying Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. It was a learning point for me as it helped me immerse myself in the character of the book.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One challenge I have faced in my subject is helping students overcome their fear of making mistakes. I encourage them to make mistakes and see their mistakes as an opportunity for growth. This helps build their confidence over time.
Another challenge is keeping up with the ever-changing and dynamic world, as it relates to teaching language.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in helping students develop a love for language. I believe language is a powerful tool that helps an individual express themselves and connect, and I am passionate about helping students to use it effectively.
I am also passionate about helping people achieve expertise.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

As a Superprof, my enthusiasm, patience and dedication to my student's success are my banner. I am adaptable and always willing to adjust my teaching methodologies to meet the different needs of each student. Ultimately, I am a superprof because I have genuine passion for listening and a desire to make a positive impact on my students' lives
