About Troy
Teaching is more than a career for me—it's a calling. Every day as a first-grade educator, I have the privilege of helping young learners discover their potential and celebrate their growth. I believe that with patience, encouragement, and the right support, every child can succeed, regardless of where they begin.
My passion lies in helping children build strong foundations in reading, writing, and math while developing the confidence to become lifelong learners. I strive to create a positive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and taking pride in their progress. As I continue pursuing my master's degree in Special Education, I remain committed to growing as an educator and using research-based practices to provide the highest quality instruction for every student I work with.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy developing educational resources, exploring new teaching strategies, and finding creative ways to make learning meaningful and enjoyable for children. My goal is to partner with families to help students achieve lasting academic success while fostering a love of learning that extends far beyond our tutoring sessions.

Every child learns differently, so I believe tutoring should be personalized rather than one-size-fits-all. I begin by identifying each student's strengths, areas for growth, and learning style before creating lessons that are engaging, encouraging, and tailored to their individual needs. My goal is not only to improve academic skills but also to build confidence and foster a genuine love of learning.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previously learned skills, followed by explicit instruction on a new concept using research-based teaching strategies. Students then practice through interactive activities, games, guided instruction, and real-world examples before ending with independent practice and a brief review to celebrate progress and reinforce learning. I also provide parents with updates and practical strategies they can use to continue supporting their child at home.
As a current first-grade educator in an inclusive classroom, I bring daily experience working with students of varying abilities, including children who need additional academic support. My lessons are designed primarily for kindergarten through second-grade students who need help with reading, phonics, writing, foundational math, homework support, or intervention to close learning gaps. My patient, positive, and structured teaching style helps students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and developing the confidence they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
