About Madison

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and have hands-on experience teaching English to middle school students in Colombia. I also hold a 120-hour TEFL certification and have experience creating and adapting lessons to meet students’ individual needs.

My teaching experience has taught me the importance of patience, clear communication, and creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and learning from mistakes. My background in psychology also gives me a strong understanding of different learning styles and the importance of adapting instruction to each student.

I take pride in being dependable, prepared, and encouraging. Whether a student needs help understanding a challenging concept, preparing for an assignment, improving their English skills, or building stronger study habits, I aim to provide structured and personalized support while helping them become more confident and independent learners.

About the lesson

I believe tutoring should be personalized, encouraging, and focused on helping students become more confident and independent learners. My goal is not simply to give students the answers, but to help them understand the material and develop skills they can use on their own.

My teaching approach combines explanation, guided practice, questions, and real-world examples. I adjust my approach based on each student's learning style, current level, and goals. I have experience teaching English in a classroom setting in Colombia, where I worked with middle school students, collaborated with local teachers, and adapted lessons to meet different students' needs.

A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student already understands and what they are struggling with. We then review the relevant concepts, work through examples together, and practice the skill with increasing independence. I like to finish by reviewing what we learned and identifying anything the student should continue practicing.

What sets me apart is my combination of classroom teaching experience and a background in psychology. I understand that students learn differently, and I aim to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I am patient, approachable, and especially interested in helping students who may need extra encouragement or a different explanation of the material.

I primarily work with elementary and middle school students in English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and homework support. I also work with beginner to intermediate ESL students on speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing. I can additionally provide beginner Spanish support, introductory psychology support, and general study skills and academic support.
